Feel the immense power of the rock-hard ice breaking as the ship pushes through the frozen landscape towards the horizon. Emerge yourself with the sea while you float your worries away in the dark, icy water and wander around on the incredibly thick ice. Spread your arms wide open and breathe in the pure arctic air on the deck, sip a warm drink at the bar and allow yourself to merge with the scenery.
There are only a few places in the world where the sea water freezes during the winter months. The Gulf of Bothnia is one of these extraordinary places and since the 1890’s the first Finnish Ice breaker ‘Murtaja’ took to the sea in order to keep business running all year round. With the Ice breaker Experience you have the chance to step aboard on a real Ice Breaker and see it in real action.
On your tour you will be guided through the magnificent ship, giving you a proper look into the intriguing engine rooms and all the way up to the captain's bridge. Snoop and wander around as you stream through the frozen sea. When the moment is right the ice breaker will create a perfect pool for everyone on board to float freely in. And don’t worry, swimming suits are not a part of this experience - you will be dressed in a special survival suit to keep you afloat while you’re nice and warm. An extremely freeing feeling that one can not miss out on. As the ship is on standby you will also get the chance to move your limbs around and leave your own footsteps on the snowy ice, capture the views around you and make sure this special moment will not fade away over time.
