The mine works in an exceptional manner: it doesn’t use any big machines for digging nor does it sell any of the rich deposits as raw material. The mine thus functions in a pure, sustainable way and it so happens to be Europe’s only active Amethyst mine.
On your winter tour you get to jump on the Amethyst Pendolino (a special kind of snow train), that will take you all the way up to the top. As you reach the top you will discover one of the most scenic views Lapland has to offer. White fells, massive snow covered trees and a landscape that expands as far (and beyond) as your eyes can see - a striking view that is hard to find anywhere else. You will then begin your fascinating mine tour, learning all about Laplands very own gemstone, the mine's core values on environmentally friendly mining and much more. After you’ve soaked in all the knowledge, you get a unique chance to dig your very own purple Amethyst gemstone to take home with you. The mine holds a small Amethyst Shop as well, where you can find some of the most beautiful amethyst jewelry.
Should you wish to add a little sport to your Amethyst Mine visit, there is a possibility to hike up to the Amethyst Mine with snowshoes or cycle up with an electric assisted fatbike. Take the chance to travel through the snowy forest while you admire the ancient Pyhä-Luosto area and its captivating scenery.
